With 12 years of experience as an Empowerment Coach and Hypnotherapist working with countless wonderful individuals over the phone or in my coaching studio, I have had the opportunity to witness the most commonplace hindrances to realizing great strides in one's aspirations. Even when a client is provided with considerable support, the tenacity of the ego often filters out the most significant suggestions, ideas and strategies so that it - your consciousness, that is - can remain fixed in the limitation the ego is familiar with. And the ego craves familiarity, it thinks its survival depends upon it. If you take to heart what I am about to share with you, you can in a sense inoculate yourself from the ego's pathological attack on your psyche and truly free yourself to achieve more in the next six months then you've accomplished in the last six years.
The ego is aware of only two things, the known and the unknown. It craves the known and will resist the unknown. Even if the unknown represents more fulfillment, to the ego it is still the unknown and therefore to be avoided at all cost.. This is the classic dilemma that inhibits rapid transformation. But more about this dynamic later. Lets first do some deprogramming!
In truth, it is actually easy for you to accomplish your desired states of living. In fact, you're built for it! Relationship harmony? Easy. Financial abundance? Piece of cake! Radiant health? No brainer! Career fulfillment? No sweat! Think I'm selling you a "bill of goods?" Don't take my word for it - or anybody else's for that matter. Just consider this: Although you are human, you are indeed yet another facet of nature and the same principles you witness in what you normally associate as nature (plants and other forms of fauna) is true about your human nature as well. In fact, the term "human nature" has really gotten a bad rap. That term, as it is frequently referenced, is used in the context of a person's inevitable shortcomings, which is a gross misrepresentation of what the term actually alludes to. In the conventional sense, the term nature is NOT used to refer to the magnificence of what it means to be alive - which is what all nature reflects including the human form of nature . Rather that term as it is typically used is actually referring to the conditioned state of one's human nature. This is a profound discernment to recognize! Again, there is a difference between one's fundamental human nature and the conditioned state of one's nature. It is one's conditioned state that can constrict fulfillment, however, one's fundamental nature is only about fulfillment!
I'll make this reality even clearer: Let's take a tree for example. The plentiful foliage witnessed on a tree is a demonstration of life's inherent abundant nature - the tree is simply, yet profoundly, being a tree. Your human nature is akin to that of the tree. You having all the money you need is yet another way nature demonstrates the same principle of abundance, it's just that it is expressing it as human nature rather than tree nature. Your expression of money is akin to the tree expressing leaves. In other words when you are simply being truly you, you demonstrate money as a dimension of your particular foliage. Abundant supply in your life is one of the ways your particular expression of nature demonstrates itself. And money is only one means of human nature in abundant expression. Substance in the form of friends, health, harmony, or purpose are also ways that "human" nature expresses itself! Of course this then begs the question, "Why does it seem easier for a tree to produce plentiful leaves or bear fruit than for humans to express the promise of love, money, health, purpose and the like?" Here's the answer to that seeming quandary and here's also where it gets interesting!
The reason that it appears to be easier for a tree to produce leaves than for a human to "produce" fulfilling love, or health, or money or greater success requires a bit of context first. Everything in its "raw" state is energy. The components of the computer/mobile device you're using right now, the very substance of your body, everything witnessed in the material world is, at its base level, energy. Now, I did say everything right? Well that also includes everything in the immaterial world too - as in your very thoughts! Your thoughts are energy too! Your thoughts form the perceptions, attitudes and the particular mental energy that the "raw" energy substance of life - capable of becoming anything - is filtered through. Another way to look at it is that the nature of your thoughts (or the energy of them) acts as a coagulant of this raw energy substance of life and coagulates the energy into a way that eventually materializes in your life in ways and conditions that are reflective of the nature of your thought-energy. Read that sentence again if you need to. I should also mention that this thought energy mix is accompanied by the emotions that are commensurate with the nature of your thoughts as well. Emotions are a form of energy too. This "energy cocktail" becomes the energy matrix you are unwittingly or intentionally maintaining. If you think "woe is me" thoughts, you create "woe is me" energy that eventually become "woe is me" circumstances. Adding to this energy mix is experience, which becomes the final or rather visible stage of what energy coalesces into. So if you take your thought cues from your experience - as most do - rather than impute intentional thoughts in the midst of your experience, you will always get more of the same experiences. Because you are allowing experiences to feed thoughts and those thoughts are feeding the experience, you are then maintaining a self-imposed endless loop of familiar experience. (Incidentally, this answers the age-old question, "Which came first the chicken or the egg?" Well if the egg is your thoughts - then definitely the egg!)
So, with that bit of necessary quantum/meta - physics exposition out of the way, here's the answer to that earlier question posed regarding why we don't demonstrate as abundantly and easily as a tree does. The significant difference between tree nature (or any other form of nature) and human nature is that we happen to possess a capacity as part of our nature that we call self awareness. Unlike other forms for nature we are fortunate that we know that we are. A tree doesn't possess the capacity to know it's a tree, neither does a squirrel know it's a squirrel. A squirrel is just being "squirrel" and a tree is just being "tree." Since the self-aware capacity of knowing is missing from the tree and the squirrel and other forms of nature, it means that the tree can only "think" - process energy - according to its raw authentic nature. A tree not having the self-aware capacity cannot think "woe is me" thoughts - as is also the case with a squirrel - and therefore nothing interferes with the essential energy matrix flow that is "tree" or "squirrel," and so we witness them easily and "naturally" expressing the full capacity of their nature! We human expressions of nature on the other hand have that unique capacity of self awareness and can choose to think in alignment with our essential energy nature or contrary to our essential energetic nature because self awareness gives us the "advantage" of thinking discriminately. This means that our erroneous thoughts and perceptions about life recalibrate the fundamental raw energy flow of our human nature and, uh, can screw things up!
There is an upside, however, to the self aware capacity within ourselves. We are able to "self correct" as we awaken (evolve) to our true unconditioned nature, which always remains intact as the locus - essence - of our identity! And this brings me back to the opening paragraph reference to the ego desiring to maintain a state of familiarity. Thoughts that are contrary to the reality that Life is naturally abundant in all expressions of Itself (including human) causes an ego-created false "identity overlay." The ego becomes attached to the overlay state of mind simply because it becomes familiar with it. This becomes it's "known" commodity - it draws a false sense of security from it so it clings to the known.
As I coach and apply hypnotherapy techniques with my clients oftentimes they are confronted with the ego's desire to remain in the familiar even though there is an unyielding desire to express greater fulfillment. This egoic pathology usually takes the form of resistance whenever a "button" is touched in the psyche of the client and they default to defensiveness or "legitimized excuses" for not continuing to forge ahead. This usually takes the form of "things coming up" in their life circumstances that they allow to keep them from their commitment to sessions, or my counsel seems to only be astute about things that don't touch a sensitive nerve within them - but if it does, then suddenly my astuteness seems to evaporate!
But regaining your power is only an understanding away! As you understand the ego's pathology you no longer are at the mercy of its victimization! Understanding that the ego views any change that cannot be qualified or quantified by former experiential reference as threatening will prepare you to no longer be controlled by its natural resistance. As mentioned earlier, the ego only deals with two realities, the known and the unknown, and its avoidance of the latter is its natural defense. But again, awareness of this in and of itself ends the victimization of this dynamic and your fulfillment no longer becomes a casualty. Your very awareness of how the ego operates permits you to witness its maneuvers but not be unwittingly consumed by it and thus you are able to continue forging ahead with your desired intentions.
It may be very easy to imagine things going wrong regarding a particular matter because the ego has the reference point of having experienced constriction or hindrance with that particular area in the past - or present. If relationships have been a struggle for you then a conscious or unconscious - sometimes both - pessimism can become the ego's point of reference because this is what it is familiar with regarding relationships. In truth, 95% of the thoughts we think are the same recurrent thoughts we've been thinking because they are the ego's familiar point of reference. So how then, in spite of a sincere desire to experience something other than the past, do your circumstance reflect something different if the same familiar thought-pattern (expectancy) is running the show? It is an impossibility. "Garbage in - garbage out."
You want to fundamentally alter your point of reference about (your) life and exercise the autonomy of your inherent right to think a different thought. Nobody else can actually think your thoughts for you - so you can in any moment decide to change a thought! Summon up a different feeling. Perceive a different perception. In the beginning - or the beginning of sporadic intentions to do so - it seems very arbitrary - but everything starts off arbitrarily; you just unconsciously assign relevance, meaning and importance based on that familiar egoic point of reference mentioned! You strengthen your autonomous capacity to think, feel and perceive differently by first aligning with the understanding that you are no different - fundamentally speaking - than other aspects of nature. "The harmony of nature, the beauty of nature, the abundance of nature, the creativity of nature . . . Is. My. Nature. Too!" Armed with this knowledge you can "call the ego's bluff" (my favorite phrase I've coined) and choose not to believe erroneous thoughts. Then use your autonomy to self correct any thought that contradicts the nature of your true nature!
This process gets easier as you allow a growing appreciation of how life really is to be cultivated on a daily basis. Engage these four basic steps to initiate your own transformation:
1. Spend more time in nature. Contemplate it, appreciate it, recognize its magnificence while at the same time recognize that its qualities are as integral to your nature and being as well.
2. Increase your willingness to be someone other than the identity you default to out of habit and convenience.
3. Make aligning your thoughts with essential ideas of harmony, abundance and love the overriding intention of your life!
4. Engage in the support systems and guidance that fuels this realignment.
You are the best thing you could ever invest in. Invest your time, your money and your commitment in your empowerment. The dividends are guaranteed because you truly are a wonder to behold.
