Maximized Potential

What does maximized potential mean? Maximized potential means you have made the greatest or fullest use of that which you were capable of being or becoming. I purposely used the past tense to get you to imagine yourself having already done it. If you don't realize anything else from me, please get this. Everything is a matter of perception. It's all in the way you look at it. Right now you must see yourself successful in every endeavor. If it's not success that you seek, you must see your relationships prosperous and healthy. What ever it is that you want, you should think like you've already got it. The more you visualize yourself having "it", the more creative ideas will appear to get "it."

We have an unlimited supply of resources at our disposal. But if you don't know that it's there, you'll feel limited by what you see. The resources I'm referring to come from the inside of us. You're not limited to your education or lack thereof. Nor are you limited to the money you have or don't. We are born with gifts and talents that we rarely tap into. We all can live the lives we want if we take the time to renew our minds. You owe it to yourself, and those you're meant to reach, to make the investment in yourself.

Let me tell you a story of how I applied this to my own life.

I grew up knowing that one day I'd be wealthy. I had no idea how this would come about but I never stopped believing it would be so. Things came easy to me in school. I could grasp concepts fairly quickly. So I decided that I would become an engineer. I researched the profession for a school paper and found out that engineers make good money. Bam! That's how I'm going to live the lifestyle I saw in the movies. The only problem was I didn't like to go to class. How can I become an engineer without a degree? Obviously, I wasn't going to be an engineer. After a few attempts at college I gave up. I had my first child and decided to become a real estate agent. The process seemed easy enough. The class was only for two weeks then you take the state test. I thought, "I can do this." So I did. I passed the course and the state test on the first try. That might not seem like much but I knew people who had taken the state test over five times before passing. I was definitely on my way to financial freedom now! Or so I thought.

In the course of two years I only closed four deals, one of which was my personal residence. By now I was married with two children and things didn't have any resemblance of wealth. Both my husband and I were in the real estate industry when the bubble burst. He was a mortgage loan officer and six months after we were married his company went bankrupt. He went from making over $100,000 the previous year to barely making around $50,000 over the next two years. We lost a vehicle and two houses before ending up living in a hotel. Now mind you, we now had two children and I was pregnant with twins. If ever we wanted to give up, that was it. Nothing seemed to come together. My husband got his insurance license just to put food on the table and get bare necessities. That was no where near his passion but you have to do what you have to do to provide for your family. And he did. The thing that kept us going was our faith in God. We believed in His word. No matter how bad things seemed, we never gave up. We may not have had money to do what we wanted but we never went without what we needed. We may have been in the wilderness but our shoes never wore out.

I must digress here for a moment. In the midst of everything that was going on, our faith actually increased instead of diminish. Why? We understood that even though it looked bleak and hopeless, the story wasn't over. We understood that we were in control of our future and wouldn't accept whatever came our way. You must remember that everything is a matter of perception. To some, we were down for the count. But we were just being shaped for the road that lay ahead. Instead of blaming each other for where we were, we came together and grew strong as a family.

Through the course of time we learned not to stress and worry about things that we couldn't change anyway. This was no easy task. Our minds had to learn to process everything differently. Instead of seeing problems, we began to see opportunities to find solutions. Well this made it interesting as opposed to being a dreadful undertaking. You must understand that every problem has a solution. If there is no solution then there is no problem. The problem needs the solution to exist. Why not spend time focusing on the solution instead of the problem? You'll save yourself a lot of time and energy. You will feel better, too.

I know I'm apart of a rare breed. My approach to situations used to cause problems early on in my marriage. My husband thought that I was inconsiderate at times and didn't care about anything. I could laugh at problems and he thought that was disrespectful. I eventually won him over to my side. I look at it like this, I'm not about to get upset and argue over things that I can't change. My time and energy is too precious to waste. Instead of getting upset, why not go out to dinner or watch a movie? Do something to take your mind off the situation. By no means be irresponsible but deal with it when you have a clear mind and it's not so fresh. Go do something else and then come back to it. In doing this, you're refreshed and able to look at it from different vantage points which offer unique solutions. You become creative and before you know it you have your answer.

Too many people waste their time and ultimately their life stressing over things that really don't matter. I live by the mantra, "No stress. No strain. No struggle." I wouldn't have it any other way. I live a wonderful life now. I've come to the realization that my dreams are absolutely possible. Now that this is apart of my belief system I can't settle for anything less than what God ordained for my life. I cannot live by any lesser order than that which God purposed.
