That is a scary question.
One that has been lingering and growing (festering) in many peoples minds. For most folks involved with an Energy MLM a large portion of them got "hooked" when one or several of the companies (Ignite Energy, Ambit Energy, Viridian Energy, Stream Energy to name a few) opened up in a new state or region of a state. It all seemed brand new, the possibilities, the territory, the potential.
MLM Realities
But along the way some things started to happen. First, the inevitable, the realization that MLM is simple but not as easy as you first expected. I am with you there, how can any sane person not SEE this thing?
So the warm market got exhausted, and if you were "lucky" you got a few customers. Funny how when push comes to shove, the hated electric company with its higher rates is such a hard sell. Now you had to turn to different ways to fill your lead pipeline. And that opened up...
A whole new world of disbelief and feelings of betrayal.
A simple search on the internet reveals there are HUNDREDS of Energy MLM companies other than yours (ok, slight exaggeration, but that's what you felt), that have been in your state longer (how come I didn't hear about it then?, when the getting was good you think).
You then notice there are MILLIONS of distributors with your company and others (again, slight exaggeration, but that's what you felt). And to top it all off, being in the "Energy MLM" business you have certain advertising restrictions. You cannot just put up a web page advertising for customers, like you can with other Network Marketing companies (Did I choose the right industry?)
So now the effort becomes a little less, the initial easy as cake road to riches is starting to look like a climb up a cliff in wintertime, during a blizzard, etc. You still see the brilliance of the MLM concept, the way to developing residual income, earning some fast cash, but now, maybe, we need to find a "better" Network Marketing opportunity, you saw THOUSANDS on the internet (strangely, I'm not exaggerating now).
Perhaps, if I just start over with all I have learned with the MNO company...
STOP!
Let's get real here my friend. Everyone of those doubts you have about your current Energy MLM, you will have with any other Network Marketing company. Face it, we are in competitive market places for any product. There will be other people within your own company and without trying to gather "your" customers. That is life in this fantastic Capitalistic society we live in, embrace it.
Energy Industry Perspective
Take stock. From the industry perspective, Energy deregulation has started and will continue to grow in an upward wave for the next 5 to 10 years. The eventual customer base is in the ten's of Millions (how many do you have to get out of, say just picking a low number, 36 million people that would like to save money on their energy bill, to be earning from $1000 to financial freedom a month?)
Energy Product Perspective
From the product perspective, everybody uses energy. Not everybody has to loose weight, take vitamins, have a lawyer on retainer, etc. And if they do and times get tough (like they are) which of those items will continue to get paid? Energy. The product is a winner.
Energy MLM Industry Perspective
From the MLM perspective and your current company perspective, a Dr. Charles King did academic research into the world of Network Marketing. Based on fifteen (15) plus years of data, he proved that of the folks who stay actively involved in ONE COMPANY for 10 years or more, over 95% reach the top of the compensation plan and earn six or seven figures a year?
What about that Boat?
Where is your Energy MLM going to be in 5 to 10 years? Better yet, will you have 5 to 10 ACTIVE years in your Energy MLM?
How big will your boat be then?
