Most likely, you are reading this because you're interested either in buying less expensive energy, or for the business opportunity offered by Affordable Energy. We'll very briefly address the concept of buying energy from someone other than you local utility, but spend most of our focus on the business opportunity being offered.
About Buying Energy from Alternative Providers
Energy, that is electricity and natural gas, has been deregulated for several years on a national basis. Even so, you can only realistically buy energy from competing providers in several states, about 14 depending on when you read this. Furthermore, if you decide to buy energy on your own, you may, or may not, find anyone offering it to you. That's because it has to be worthwhile for the provider to do so. In some locales your local provider or utility may be the least expensive provider depending on your consumption. However, in certain states you may be able to avail yourself of significant savings. In those states there are many companies who vie for your business. Affordable Energy targets customers in only two of those state, Texas and New York.
The Company
So, this company, Affordable Energy, has decided to offer electricity using the model of multi-level, or network marketing, as its sales vehicle to provide this product. There are many companies with much more experience in the MLM world and many with much more experience in the energy world. I don't mean to imply they won't do well. In fact they appear to be well backed by Shell. Yes, that Shell, the international oil and energy company. Even so, I know from my 25+ years experience in the energy industry that this type backing can be rescinded for future business, if the company doesn't perform to Shell's, or any other backing company's, expectations. Note again that the company is only providing its product in two states at the time of this writing. Furthermore, I have some concern about the long-term viability of providing energy to residential consumers. Think about the manpower needed. In the long run, you'd have to either duplicate the utility or find a better way to manage each customer.
The Opportunity
The energy industry could be a very interesting product area for the MLM industry. It's definitely true that most everyone uses electricity and, unlike a lot of other products in MLM, you are only likely to use an alternative to your utility if you'll save money. Furthermore, you'd do that every month forevermore, as long as the savings continue. So, the potential residual aspect for this product appears to me to be much greater than other products that are so prevalent in network marketing. Seriously, consider how long a customer who buys your vitamins is going to stay with you when they're twice as expensive as what they can buy from a non-MLM company. Now, given the above, is Affordable Energy the best MLM company for this product? Well, it depends. It depends on several factors. My interpretation of the compensation plan is that it's more back-end loaded. That is, you make your money more on the residual nature. You really don't make much at all up front. Other companies are the other way around. Depending on how you build your business, one is better than the other. If you build a big organization, you may be better off with this company, all other things being equal. To build a big company keep in mind you'll need to market more than just to family and friends.
In any case, you need to learn how to utilize on-line marketing with Affordable Energy or any other business opportunity that you choose! While you're thinking about it, visit me to see how.
