The answer is simply by exercising it and putting it in control of your thoughts. Every day, countless thoughts stream through our mind. We have to learn to be conscious of them and be prepared to apprehend negative thoughts, the moment that they come up. Capture these negative thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts instead. Imagine you are in a joyful and loving environment, and create a mental picture of the goals you have set for yourself. For instance, you may picture yourself having a cruise with your family or finding a better job or moving into a new house or being in a special relationship.
Your visualisation of yourself and your dream should be so sharp it will seem the goal has already been achieved, regardless of whether you currently have the resources to finance that goal or your current situation is intractable. The crucial thing to realise is that when you believe that you will attain your goal, you will perceive the situations and opportunities as the means and routes that will lead you to reach your goal.
